MEET DR. KASTNER
Dr. Kastner received a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Manchester College, Indiana, in 1977. He received his D.D.S. degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1981. Dr. Kastner has practiced dentistry in Toledo since 1983.
Dr. Kastner has served on the Board of Directors of the Toledo Dental Society and was elected to the Executive Board as President in 2002. He has been a delegate or alternate delegate to the Ohio Dental Association House of Delegates since 1998 and is seated on their Statewide Subcouncil on Peer Review.
Dr. Kastner also served on the Board of Trustees of the Dental Center of Northwest Ohio which provides dental care to low income families and children. Lately, he is involved in the problem of access to dental care for Ohio’s under-served children and is actively participating in Lucas County’s Oral Health Coalition and “Give Kids A Smile Campaign”.
In 1995 and 2002, Dr. Kastner was awarded the prestigious Humanitarian Award by the Ohio Dental Association for his work in foreign countries, the United States and the Toledo area.
He has on six occasions been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the American Dental Association for work in the Dominican Republic (1985, 1987), Costa Rica (1990), Nepal (1994), and Nicaragua (2000, 2001). Previously he provided humanitarian service in Guatemala.
Dr. Kastner assists at the Coroner’s Office in forensic dental indentification and is a captain of Ohio’s Mass Disaster Team.
In December 2001, he assisted the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York in dental identification of World Trade Center victims.
For his work he was presented with an American Spirit Award by Ohio Governor Bob Taft. He was also presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York and New York Congressman Voto J. Fossella.
Periodically he assists in veterinary dentistry at the Toledo Zoo.
In 1997 he received Manchester College’s highest award, the Alumni Honor Award. He was been named to Marquis Who’s Who on numerous occasions.
In 2003, Dr. Kastner was elected to fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists, two of the highest honors bestowed in dentistry.
Dr. Kastner is a member of the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association and the Toledo Dental Society. He also has membership in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry since 1993 and attends numerous seminars and courses to remain abreast of all aspects of esthetic dentistry. Other memberships include the American Society of Forensic Odontology, the American College of Oral Implantology, the American Society of Osseointegration, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
In his free time, Dr. Kastner enjoys travel, photography, playing sports and outdoor activities. His favorite time is spent with his wife, Kimberly, and their three sons, Kevin, Ryan and Derek.
